CCA South Carolina welcomes new Bluffton chapter

CCA South Carolina welcomes new Bluffton chapter

Columbia, S.C. – Recreational fishing in the Lowcountry is a time-honored tradition tied to the culture and quality of life in South Carolina so it makes perfect sense that a group of dedicated sportsman and anglers have gathered together to establish a new CCA chapter in the Bluffton/ Hilton Head area of the state.

“There is no group of people more interested in the well-being of our state’s marine resources than anglers,” said Erik Delong, co-chairman of the new chapter. “Coastal Conservation Association is recognized around the state, region, and country as the leading voice of anglers and marine conservationists and we are excited about the organization having a local presence here.”

The recreational angling advocacy group has been active for nearly 30 years in South Carolina marine resource conservation and fisheries management issues. From the development of the state’s saltwater fishing license to establishing cobia as a gamefish in state waters, CCA SC has been the leading advocate for important fisheries management measures. Through its highly successful Topwater Action Campaign habitat program, CCA SC has also become a force for marine habitat creation and restoration in the state. With nearly $200,000 in oyster reef creation/restoration and oyster shell recycling efforts, CCA SC is addressing all aspects of improving both the resource and recreational angling opportunities.

“We are thrilled with the enthusiasm and the opportunities that have come from the development of this new chapter,” said Scott Whitaker, CCA SC executive director. “The future abundance of our marine resources is a topic that affects not just anglers but anyone who values the coast of South Carolina. We look forward to the participation and new perspective that these members and volunteers will bring to CCA.”

“This partnership is achieving every goal that we set when we first discussed our vision with Sea Hunt in 2014,” said Richard Berry, State Chairman of CCA South Carolina. “This is a relationship that has drawn on the best of private industry, public stewardship and our sporting tradition to enhance South Carolina’s coast. We are proud to be working with Sea Hunt Boats to not only create new marine habitat, but to advance the science of habitat restoration, marine fisheries conservation, and recreational angling opportunities.”

“This is a commitment that is deeply appreciated and understood by all sportsmen, particularly by the marine recreational angling community” said Scott Whitaker, executive director of CCA South Carolina. “Our partnership with Sea Hunt Boats will enhance the important impact recreational anglers have in the conservation and sustainable management of our state’s marine resources.”
